Pierre Gasly, Formula 1 driver: “If I’m given the car to get on the podium or win, I’ll know how to do it…”
Pierre Gasly is competing in his third year in Formula 1 (F1) at the wheel of an Alpine . Tenth in the drivers' standings in 2024, the 29-year-old from Normandy has had a difficult first third of the season: 14th with 7 points scored, the only ones scored by his team. Before the ninth race, Sunday, June 1 in Barcelona (Spain), Alpine is only in 9th place out of ten constructors.
Met in Monaco on Thursday, May 22, a few days before a Grand Prix which ended prematurely for him, on the eighth lap due to a collision with Yuki Tsunoda (Red Bull), the French driver keeps his ambitions of one day competing for the world championship title firmly in mind.
How do you explain this complicated start to the season? For the moment, it's been a hectic season, with a lot of adversity. The grid is very tight. We're not the most consistent. But we showed in Bahrain [from April 11 to 13] that we can perform well: 4th in qualifying, 7th at the end of the Grand Prix. At other races, we've been rather unlucky. We know it's going to be difficult to score "big" points, but it's not impossible. We have significant room for improvement. Alpine is a team that has the potential to do better than what we're currently showing.
